Sage by Hughes, a self-monitored DIY home-security and connected-home system, has added support for the entire line of Nest products for the home. If you own a Sage system, you'll now be able to add the Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Cam home-security camera, and the Nest Protect smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms to the devices you can control via Sage's TV-based hub.
Sage users start out by buying one of three DIY kits and then build out a more elaborate system with add-on components as their needs and budgets dictate. All three kits include the Sage Hub, which connects to your home network and displays its user interface on your TV screen (you interact with the system using a smartphone or tablet). The $200 Starter Kit includes one door/window sensor and one motion sensor. The $350 Security Kit adds an indoor security camera and a doorbell sensor to the mix. The $230 Automation Kit substitutes a light switch, an appliance switch, and an LED light bulb for the sensors.
However you start, you can add any of the products from the other kits, as well as a variety of other devices not included in any of the kits, ranging from smart entry locks to outdoor cameras and LED light bulbs. Sage's product lineup isn't as diverse as we've seen with some other systems--you can add only Yale-brand smart locks, for example--but all the bases are covered and a Sage spokesperson told us the company plans to support more products in the near future.
